How to Retire Fragile Marketing Spreadsheets

Move from manual consolidation to governed, repeatable performance reporting.

Spreadsheets are flexible—and fragile

They break when formulas change, tabs multiply, or version control disappears. Retiring them does not mean banning analysis; it means moving source-of-truth data into a governed system.

Phase 1: Standardize inputs

Agree on campaign names, channel labels, date ranges, and revenue definitions before migrating anything.

Phase 2: Migrate one reporting cycle

Run the old spreadsheet and the new system in parallel for a single review cycle. Differences reveal mapping issues early.

Phase 3: Assign ownership

Make one team responsible for data quality and one for interpretation. Without ownership, the spreadsheet returns under a new filename.
