Attribution should reduce debate, not create it
Perfect attribution is rare. Useful attribution is achievable when teams agree on what decision the model supports and how much precision the data can support.
Match the model to your maturity
- Early stage: last-touch or source-level tracking for directional budget shifts.
- Growing teams: blended channel views with consistent spend and revenue inputs.
- Mature programs: activity-level history with documented assumptions and regular reviews.
Make assumptions visible
When stakeholders can see which sources feed a number and when it was last updated, attribution becomes a management tool instead of a black box.
Review on a schedule
Revisit attribution rules quarterly or when major channel mix changes occur. Static models quietly become wrong models.
